It is the best of times, it is the worst of times…

I am never sure how it happens, but it does. One minute I am diligently taking care of myself, and then… BLINK…I am out of steam, exhausted and trying to keep up with everyone's needs EXCEPT my own. Finding a balance is the ULTIMATE challenge for me so I started thinking about it last night.

James Ray once said that in a perfect balance, nothing is happening. And if you think about it, he is right. But if you consistently put energy towards all areas of your life, you ultimately achieve harmony. I agree. It is sort of like cross training. To get the ultimate body, you have to work on all of it, not just your abs.

Some of us are pretty good at saving 10% of each paycheck…so there is ALWAYS a balance. Perhaps we should start investing 10% of our waking hours to our own mind, bodies, and spirits. That way, we always have some balance to borrow from instead of depleting, or worse, losing ourselves. And to really do this, you must make yourself TOP PRIORITY. Period. Because when we pause and reflect on ourselves, we will realize that (as Annie Dillard said) "How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives."
