Sigh.

I sigh. All the time. Apparently.

My husband, in response to a sigh, always asks, "What's wrong?"

My answer, "Nothing." And I mean it. Really, really, I do.

I breathe in and exhale — out loud — for many reasons. Somewhere along the way, I learned to let go of many daily frustrations, expectations, exhaustion, and disappointment…with…a…sigh. By the time you hear me sigh, I have moved on. And if my sighing occurs several times throughout the day — what can I say? I am very efficient at breathing right through "a moment."

Taking deep breaths is healthy living at its best. Think about it: Without air, we would perish within minutes. Our blood needs oxygen. And our immune systems depend on oxygen uptake to work optimally, keeping us strong and vital. Harmful bacteria and microbes cannot live, much less thrive, in a heavily oxygenated environment. In fact, pain, disease, and cancer are all associated with lack of oxygen to the tissues. Ask someone in medical research how they get cells to mutate. They decrease oxygen supply; to stop degeneration, they simply turn the oxygen flow back up. Interesting, isn't it?

So, if you are like me, and you sigh the day away…find pleasure in these sighs. And if you have been holding it in, take a deep breath. Let it out, let it go…so you don't explode.

Sigh.
