"The starting point of great success in your life begins,
in the simplest terms,
when you discipline yourself to think and talk about only the things you want
and refuse to think and talk about anything you don't want."

This is, simply, one of my favorite quotes ever. Sadly, we don't have to make much of an effort to absorb negativity these days. It seems as though it is all around us. Add into it our own problems, and WOW! Taking these words to heart and living them is not an easy endeavor, but it is the most important one you will ever undertake. I am a big believer and a daily student of intention, and I know we reap what we speak. Finding ways to stay focused, positive, and hopeful are critical to mastering this habit.

One of the many reasons I love feng shui is its very essence is symbolism. When we make room for ourselves by clearing the clutter and bringing in positive and uplifting energy, we are speaking to ourselves subconsciously as much as we are consciously. (And if you need to understand why this is SO important, please read The Ant and the Elephant.) But without applying specific intention behind any feng shui adjustment, you shortchange yourself of the abundant possibilities that exist.

Here is a quick example. Mirrors are considered the aspirin of feng shui. Great! You are off hanging mirrors in every corner of your home. But wait…mirrors double everything they reflect. If a mirror is reflecting a dying plant or a pile of laundry, well, multiply that in your mind. Hmmm… However, if you place something beautiful and/or living in front of the mirror, what do you think you are doubling now? Take this a step further. You have a bright, gorgeous, crystal chandelier that hangs in line with the mirror. Perfect. But what do you think of when you see this? Anything?

Feng shui offers suggestions on how to "move your stuff, change your life" with the implicit expectation that you are living with intention. To really master our thoughts, we have to be hyper aware of them. Feng shui gives us visual reminders of what we desire. So as I share feng shui tips, remember that anything I recommend must be personalized with your intentions and expectations. By incorporating intention into your efforts, you will begin to think and talk about only those things you desire. And then, and only then, will you be surrounded by magnificent changes in your life.
