A Simple Truth
"I had a small cry on the playground today," said one of my little lovelies last night over dinner.
"Why?" I inquired.
"Because I really wanted to play with so-and-so, and she said I'm not her type."
"Mmmmmm-kay…" I said, trying to ignore the roar of rage burning inside.
Deep breath.
"Here's the thing, love. Choose people who choose you. You'll be happier in the end. And when someone says they don't 'want' you, shrug it off. Just let them be, okay?"
Another deep breath.
As I was flipping through some old notebooks today, I came across this sentiment and it took my breath away:
Practice curiosity…in place of judgment.
This is exactly it. We all have a tendency to be judgmental. How can we not be? Especially these days. Yet, while it is necessary to be cautious, not every person or situation warrants our expertise on how things "should" be — you know, the world according to us. Excessive judgment is toxic. Criticism always turns inward. Allow yourself to be curious instead. Try it at least once…today. Silence the impulsive, inner know-it-all and step out in a new, big way. Look at life differently…because all of us are in the process of perfecting who we want to be. And that deserves some patience.
A brief word about tomorrow's post…there are some exciting changes in the works. Be sure and stop by to see what's brewing!
