Q: “we just moved into our home (and it’s only been a month so I know there is so much opportunity here), but I had to hit pause because I was getting a little overwhelmed. I’m trying to strike a balance of purchasing and planning and just taking a breath to focus a bit more on what we need at the moment. do you have any suggestions on helping us find some clarity and discernment?”

A: YOU KNOW I DO!

no. 1: bring in fresh flowers weekly or bi-weekly – this will deposit fresh chi in your “home’s account” and these “installments” will build up your chi reserves – which will entice you to feel more confident making decisions about the design and styling of your home!

no. 2: work to get your bedroom “finished” first – and in a way that feels really good! the bedroom is so influential on our energy, and once it pleasingly bookends your day, it will soothe the decision fatigue you’re experiencing. (listen to this week’s episode of House Therapy – *wake up on the bright side* – for a few ideas, if you need them!)

no. 3: head to Fame and Reputation because this is where we really strengthen clarity. make sure you’re opening the curtains / blinds, maybe lighting a candle here or even upping the wattage in the lighting options in this space.

(imagine your home is a tic-tac-toe board. standing at the front door – looking into your home – the Fame area is located in that back middle square. if you prefer compass, it is the South area of your home.)

no. 4: and if they need it, clean the windows so the light coming in isn’t diffused by weathering. likewise, if anything is mostly blocking your view, see if you can remove or edit the space so you can *see* a bigger picture! xo

whenever I start talking about the “mouth of chi”, there is one Q that pops up every time:

“what color *should* I paint my front door?”

so, a few quick notes:

the front door is where we entice auspicious energy into our homes, and in Feng Shui, this is the architecturally front door of a house. energy goes where the eye does, so it’s worth the endeavor to make the entrance as inviting as possible.

and, of course, one of the ways we can entice and inform the energy romping our way is with COLOR.

so…

when choosing a color for the front door, I have 3 suggestions for picking the “right” one:

OPTION ONE: choosing a color you LOVE will always win first place. when we LOVE what we see, you can’t out-do that energy windfall. say it with me: IF YOU LOVE IT, YOU WIN!

OPTION TWO: not sure what you LOVE? choose a color that looks good on you. style the door how you would style yourself! (can’t paint your door your favorite hue to wear? get creative with a wreath, a doormat, or some pots of plants!)

OPTION THREE: still not sure? be bold and pick a hue that stands out from the rest of your house. energy follows the eye, and nothing says “heyyyy!” quite like a hard-to-miss door!

here are 3 things I recommend taking out of your bedroom so it becomes a space that indulges and prioritizes YOU.

no. 1: what are the first 5 things you notice? if those don’t immediately say sleep, sex / sensuality, and stillness, it’s time to evict them. my *GOT TO GO* list includes – but is not limited to – exercise equipment, unopened boxes, laundry piles, work, and other people’s stuff. if it isn’t selling you SERENITY NOW, let it live somewhere else in your house.

no. 2: let’s do some quick word association. YIN is quiet. YANG is loud. YIN is settled. YANG is stimulating. too much YANG energy will disrupt how you sleep. it can intensify what you worry about at night. so, do a quick YANG edit. look first to the TV, electronics, and your phone – these all activate the mind. try covering up the TV at night (for a week). and if you can’t remove EMFs from the room, put them anywhere other than your bedside.

no. 3: what do you have hanging in your room? relationship woes – romantic or social – can often be improved when we remove any solitary or ‘solo’ imagery. if you feel creatively dried up or new opportunities aren’t presenting themselves, maybe you’re bored of the imagery around you. or, maybe the art depicts dry, frozen, lonely or barren spaces. the metaphors are endless. my suggestion: make sure you LOVE what you see. waking up / drifting off under that influence will absolutely change the energy you meet and mingle with daily!

there are three Feng Shui rituals usually governing energy around here, and one of those is the silver box “cure” employed in the Helpful People / Travel area of our home.

for this ritual, you need a silver box or envelope; a new red marker; a few notecard-size pieces of paper; and red envelope.

so, first things first – where is the Helpful People / Travel area?

if you practice Compass shui, go to the Northwest corner of your home (or a room); for the BTB shui-ers, it is the front right-hand corner of your home.

this gua’s energy is a portal for summoning and synchronizing both cosmic and earthly assistance when we need help.

what’s the purpose of this ritual?

this remedy is one way of requesting a higher consciousness’s help orchestrating possibilities and opportunities on your behalf.

so…

with your red marker / pen, write down on your pieces of paper what you would like to have manifest AS IF IT IS HAPPENING. personally, I like to write ‘I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR…’ statements, as if the magic has already occurred.

[note: clarity here is a power move, so no more than 2-3 requests at a time.]

once each vision statement is complete (one per piece of paper), tuck your piece of paper into a red envelope. while you do, stay focused on your goal(s). once you’re done, put each statement (in its own red envelope) in the silver box.

this ritual releases our need to control circumstances, which makes us more receptive to perfectly-timed experiences and the right opportunities or people showing up!

so, any time you want to invite some help into your life, write down a statement of gratitude, do your shui magic, place it in the box, and allow the cosmos to organize accordingly. xo

I’m about to kick off my Fall House Therapy prog

I’m about to kick off my Fall House Therapy program – we are 16 strong! – and one of the conversations in that forecast is: does Feng Shui really come down to being a “mind thing”? – as in, because you think it is going to have an effect, it “works.”

at first glance, sure, it could be a factor.

I mean, sitting in command – after you’ve read (or been told by your friendly shui practitioner!) that it can help you see opportunity coming so you’re able to take advantage of the moment – is compelling enough, you might change your mind about what is possible professionally for you.

however, allow me to introduce one other consideration of Feng Shui – something noticeable from years of experience and practice:

going back to the example of command positioning…

it is often when my clients move themselves out of command – say, for the ease of a room redesign – that they call me wondering why it feels like problems are “coming out of nowhere.”

and to be clear, this call usually comes a few months after the move or change, so they’re not thinking about their desk positioning when they SOS me. instead, they’re wrapped up in the details of what’s going wrong and want a quick fix to their ‘new’ problems, but the hallmarks are usually the same: there’s been a sudden reversal of “fortune” or ease.

and the first thing I check: bed and desk positioning – are they still in command? and most of the time, nope.

so…

command isn’t just a “mind” thing; it is “wiring” thing. when we sit or sleep without view of the door, our subconscious – through no conscious effort on our part – keeps “an eye open” for potential threats. we are hardwired for survival, and without view of incoming energy, we hover on alert.

so, maybe our mind gets involved, but living and working in spaces that are truly optimized for us physically and psychologically feels better...and that is how shui makes everything in our lives that much easier.
