A Style Statement
By opening our minds
to new ways of thinking…
by being honest about the things we love and don't love…
by being brave…
by getting rid of negativity…
by opening our eyes, hearts, and spirits to new positive thoughts…
by discovering and embracing our own uniqueness…
and by searching for inspiration.
Rebecca Moses {A Life of Style}
This is how one cultivates style.
I think back to grade school. Art class. A blank sheet of paper. And no rules. GULP. All I remember was colossal anxiety.
Even though we are surrounded by fashion + home muses today — Anthropologie, Etsy, Pottery Barn — defining OUR signature style can be confusing. Fashions change seasonally, and keeping up is expensive + exhausting. We usually end up with conflicting tastes, and pulling it all together requires good instincts.
My suggestion: find a folder, a box, or a basket. And for a stretch of time, just toss what resonates with your soul into this gathering place. Images, words + quotes, colors, ideas…
Whatever motivates + inspires + delights you goes in. Fuh-get about rhyme + reason. Just follow your heart with gusto. Remember, LOVE over like. Listen to your creative impulses.
After a few weeks, spread your collection out. This is your style collage. It is a reflection of who you are + what you love. And when you understand this, you will leave a lasting impression wherever you go.
The image above is part of MY style collage — the watercolors + the hues of pinks and reds and yellows {oh my!} + the sketch make me HAPPY. Oh-so very happy!
