Breathe Free
Ahhh…the first few weeks of school. Our kids pile into halls and classrooms, making new friends and sharing germs. Around here, we are wasting no time passing strep, colds, and — eeks! — the swine flu. Since even the mildest cold can warp into a viral nightmare overnight, I like to keep my shelves stocked with a few products I KNOW and LOVE.
(As I have mentioned before, I use Nature's Sunshine Products (NSP). I have had tremendous success with my "staple" products; however, I encourage everyone to do their own research and find what works best for them. With any supplement, you should have 1 criteria: QUALITY. Look for the safest, purest, highest potency products available.)
Your run-of-the-mill, average cold is a virus. Translation: Antibiotics ARE NOT going to help. Your best medicine is always prevention. I keep my girls on a steady regimen that includes a multi-vitamin, an elderberry chewable supplement, a probiotic, and a mangosteen antioxidant juice. However, kids are susceptible to germs just like we are — if we don't get enough sleep or eat the right foods, we create a "friendly" environment for bacteria and viruses. When a cold hits, I rely on my regimen AND 2 essential oils to coast us through the congestion, coughing, sneezing, aches, and pains: Tei-Fu oil and Breathe Free essential oil.
Tei Fu oil is a blend of safflower and wintergreen oils, menthol, and camphor. I rub it onto chests and throats to relieve congestion. It is also extremely useful treating headaches, sore muscles, and canker sores. Tei Fu comes in a very tiny bottle, BUT IT PACKS A PUNCH! It can be overpowering at times so I often wait until my girls are sleeping to rub it onto their chests.
Breathe Free essential oil is a blend of geranium, niaouli bio, peppermint, and rosemary essential oils. I have no idea why this works so well, but let me say: These oils have a synergistic effect! I credit this oil combination with keeping our home pneumonia-free last winter, and that was no small feat! When using Breathe Free, I apply it to foreheads, behind ears, and around necks. When breathing sounds uber-laborious, I use a diffuser to pump it throughout our home. Breathe Free was created specifically to promote healing of pulmonary infections so it is an effective treatment for colds, bronchitis, coughs, congestion, respiratory infections, and asthma.
Some people are hesitant discussing "alternative" treatment methods, and I completely understand. It took me years before I was comfortable giving my girls anything that was not a prescription — I had to become patient with a new process. Medications are quick. Natural healing takes time, but its results are long lasting. Why? Medicines treat symptoms; natural remedies build health. With health care up in the air and viruses breathing down our necks, I encourage you to discover a few "go to" items that will maximize your health and ease your mind over the winter months!
