Color Me Happy
In the spring, I am going to embark on Phase II of painting my house — the closets! Maybe it sounds OCD-ish or like a crazy way to spend/waste time, but the amount of giddiness that will flow through my body every time I open a closet door to see bright colors is well worth the investment.
Color, for me, is like hearing a song you love…even a song from years ago. This weekend, my husband and I were up late scrolling through his iPod. Since he uses my iTunes library, most of the songs I love are on his machine. It is an absolute delight for me to scroll through and listen to songs that evoke such vivid and palpable emotions. My whole body has to soak in the words, the beat, the feelings…I am "in" the moment.
Color is the very same experience for me. A color does not remind me of a break-up or a fun road trip, but the joy I get when I find the perfect color…that stays with me. The happiness I feel when a room is freshly coated and finally painted…heaven. You see, color and my subconscious get along well. And every time I walk into a room and see bright, colorful, happy walls…I smile, if even for just a second. It is a simple pleasure really, but one of the best out there I can always count on.
