command prosperity with bamboo

in Feng Shui, bamboo stalks are symbolic of good fortune and prosperity. bamboo itself represents being flexible and open (thanks to those hollow stems) so that chi can flow and grow freely – this ‘flow’ is how it ‘attracts’ positive energy and opportunities. as for the number of stalks in a bamboo arrangement, that choice is believed to carry its own positive meaning, depending on your intention(s).

‘1’ stalk symbolizes a single focus and commitment, so if you’ve got a BIG goal on the horizon, start here!

‘2’ stalks suggest balance – which is great when you’re looking to infuse your home or relationships with more harmony.

‘3’ stalks serve up health, wealth and longevity – a trio that will forever be considered especially auspicious.

‘4’ stalks are tied to education luck, so these are great for kiddo and dorm rooms!

‘5’ stalks bring in the 5 elements – so you can count on that extra dollop of nourishment from being with the fab 5!

‘6’ bamboo stalks call in networking opportunities and good fortune for any of your business / career endeavors, ambitions or goals.

‘7’ bamboo stalks boost health chi since the number has ties to our physical and emotional well-being.

‘8’ bamboo stalks are particularly auspicious, as this is the number associated with infinite growth and success. cha-ching!

‘9’ bamboo stalks anchor good luck and overall good fortune achieving your goals.

and as promised a couple weeks ago (over on Instagram), I have one more suggestion for working with this chi enhancer, invoking the nourishing presence of all 5 elements. here is what you need to know:

the bamboo is Wood.

the water in its vase is (obviously) Water.

if its pot is circular or white, it will introduce Metal.*

the rocks in the container are Earth.

and you can add a red ribbon (which is sometimes already tied to the lucky bamboo, especially around the new year) to bring in Fire.*

*for Metal, you can easily drop a coin into the pot if you don’t find something circular or white. for Fire, you can choose a red pot or tie a small ribbon to the bamboo yourself. xo
