how I became a powerhouse in Feng Shui

becoming a Feng Shui practitioner didn’t happen overnight for me.

it wasn’t a single certification, a perfectly curated home, or a viral moment that *made* me.

weirdly, I actually credit these 3 circumstances ‘most’ for my trajectory to where I am today…

01. a painfully awkward conversation that still echoes.

I was standing with a group of parents, small talking, when someone asked, “so, what do you do?”

now, depending on the crowd and room, that question still gives me a somersault in the stomach – because if the curious have never heard of Feng Shui, I know things have the potential to get weird fast.

that day was no exception.

I tried to explain, tried to bridge the gap with more convincing words, but someone chimed in with: “wow, that sounds really off the beaten path.”

and for a minute, I almost agreed to move the conversation away from me, but then I remembered: Feng Shui has been practiced for over 5,000 years. so, for me, if we don’t make room for that kind of enduring wisdom, the likelihood is we’re the ones off the path.

my response then is the same still today: if you live in a home — with furniture, stuff, energy — Feng Shui is happening, whether you know it or not.

02. a viral article… and public humiliation.

fresh out of a certification program and an executive coaching group, I contributed an article that went viral – and, of course, I thought “I’ve arrived!”

that feeling lasted precisely until I read the comments.

a group of “old school” practitioners tore me apart — saying I didn’t know Feng Shui and had no business talking about it.

I was SO humiliated, and immediately tucked my tail and enrolled in another (more traditional) certification program. I studied Compass, Flying Stars, 9 Star Ki — all of it.

and you know what I found (several thousand dollars and years later)?

most of this wisdom overlaps.

the distinctions between schools? they’re nuanced and incredibly high-level.

meanwhile, most people are seeking the more practical, user-friendly suggestions.

and that thread became Simple Shui because what most of us want is a way to connect with our home and feel more aligned in our lives.

03. I didn’t start teaching until felt I had earned it.

I spent years behind the scenes — developing curriculum for other coaches, thought leaders and influencers, and most of it was palms up work.

I answered questions in my inbox without requiring a consultation.

I went LIVE on Facebook and Instagram, unpolished and unscripted. (anyone remember my 50 Shades of Shui challenge?)

I said yes to podcasts before I was comfortable explaining shui.

I wrote blog posts for a decade, showed up for clients, tested everything I was learning.

and.

I built a $100K+ client business before I ever offered my own course. (that took me a decade.)

while I am not suggesting this is the path for everyone, I do believe it is because of this depth, that time, and consistent devotion that I’m really good at what I do.

so.
