Q & A: can you Feng Shui your space to support a loved one?
Q: “can you shui your space in loving support of a beloved? is it possible to feel better personally and support them energetically without saying a thing?”
in a word: YES.
i am all too familiar with how slippery feeling sunny to sunk can be. and like many of you, i feel like things are out of control when the tailspins happen in our family.
if there is any difference between you and me in those moments, it is only one. i have repeated experience of how shui can soften the turbulence. so, even when nothing looks like it’ll be okay, i’m able to source some comfort from that confidence.
so, here are the 3 starting points i work with personally when how-to-help isn’t obvious or easy:
first, the center of your house is the epicenter of everything in your home and life. this space influences all areas of your life, including your loved ones’ well-being and happiness. the center space also infiltrates the quality of energy within your surroundings – which is why it deserves attention and love. from this day forward, think about the middle of your house as sacred space. its superpower is inviting refreshments, reprieve, and reassurance into your (and your loved one’s) life. so, if you do nothing else, get these two things right: keep yours clean and orderly so energy can flourish freely and nourish you fully. and, add 1-2 chi enhancers to fertilize any shui efforts you make.
WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE: we have a storage closet as part of our middle area. in times of need, i pull everything out. vacuum the entire space. and edit out anything unnecessary so there is a little *new* physical room to receive whatever support, help, or guidance we need.
next, and because the element Earth is most at home in the center space, ensure yours is enjoying her company! this is simple enough to make happen. bring in a potted plant (dirt is Earth). display imagery that depicts a calm landscape (they’re very Earthy). or, incorporate a little yellow (Earth’s golden child!). any and all will impart Mama Earth love.
WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE: we have a painting of Matilda the Tiger (her coloring is very Earthy) in our home’s center. i also light a few candles here (Fire feeds Earth) daily.
finally, even though i often put the bagua last on my list of considerations, these situations call for its frontline assistance. every life area of the map is embedded with incredible wisdom for us. for instance, did you know every family member has two power areas in the home? the first power spot we determine through a 9 Star Ki reading (which you receive as part of a Simple Shui consult!). the other power spot is a gua associated with where you fall in your family order. so, for all my ladies and mamas out there, the LOVE & RELATIONSHIP gua holds “female head-of-household” energy for us! curious and cool, right? lucky enough, i had a convo about this with the delightful and dynamic Sarah Seidelmann. if you want to learn where all your beloveds’ areas reside, you definitely want to watch the interview!
WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE: depending on who is in need, i go to their spots and look for anything metaphorically suggestive of their challenge and work from there.
whatever your situation might be, in my experience, there is usually room for improvement and a few fresh breaths. Feng Shui won’t make everything better overnight – we all have life lessons we’re here to learn. however, what i know with certainty is Feng Shui improves our discernment…which leads to making better decisions…and that widens our availability and receptivity to what we need. and so even when – and perhaps especially when – you don’t know what to do, start here. and pay attention – because help is on its way! xo
