Q & A: why splurge on fresh flowers?
you know I LOVE fresh bloomies, but I also adore when science backs me up, so let’s discuss: why splurge on fresh flowers?
no. 1: they put us in a better mood. a study by Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, found that “in the company of flowers, people became happier, more sociable, and far more positive in their long-term outlook.”
no. 2: we need nature in our lives. Professor Miles Richardson says “noticing nature in your daily life through simple acts, such as having flowers in your home, can be integral when it comes to taking action for nature.”
no. 3: flowers give us more energy. a study showed that having flowers somewhere in the mix of our morning routine has perk-me-up potential. makes a strong argument for keeping those blooms in the kitchen, where everyone tends to gather before heading out into the day!
no. 4: flowers smell fabulous and can neutralize household odors, which is so much better than reaching for those household deodorizers.
no. 5: flowers help us heal. studies show patients with flowers in their rooms had “fewer complications; needed fewer post-op painkillers; their blood pressure and heart rate measurements were lower; they were markedly less anxious and fatigued; and they helped reduce recovery time.”
no. 6: flowers lower our stress levels. “according to a 2018 study by the University of North Florida, it only took a few days of having flowers in their home for participants to notice a significant improvement in their stress levels.”
no. 7: flowers trigger our creative juices. Texas A&M University found that people “proved to be far more innovative and creative in an office-based environment surrounded by flowers and plants than those without, and people’s productivity, in the form of innovation and creative problem solving, improved.”
no. 8: flowers make your home more welcoming! “a home full of flowers is a house that is welcoming and puts visitors immediately at ease. it suggests they are in the home of someone who appreciates beauty and cares about their environment.”
