Q & A: our daughter has fallen behind in school – help!
if you have attended one of my workshops or had a 1:1 consult, you know what i am about to say: YOU CANNOT FENG SHUI FOR OTHERS. we cannot ‘shui’ other people without their permission, even our kids if they older than 10. this distinction separates shui from organizing and design. they are each very different practices. shui is an intentional, intuitive process, and you can’t set intentions or intuit for someone else. capice?
so, what happens when a loved one is struggling? is there any way to use Feng Shui to help mitigate those edges our loved ones bump up against? lucky you, we are discussing that in today’s Q. while we can’t force ‘shui’ medicine, we can prescribe it – much like a doctor helps patients. we make gentle suggestions. we incorporate supportive changes in ‘public’ areas of our home. and we explain how Feng Shui can help, encouraging their participation in the process. ultimately, though, they need to be involved. so, let’s explore how that looks in real life.
THE QUESTION:
“we recently learned our daughter has fallen behind in school. she’s not turning in her work on time. and while her teachers have been very supportive, they have noted she is performing below her ability. her focus is dwelling on social activities and connections. we understand there is a strong need for that in her life right now, but we have to find a way to balance things. any suggestions for addressing this issue?”
THE SHUI:
(1) globes and maps are good for stimulating education energy. does she have a map up in her room? if not, ask her to choose one she loves and hang it. if the map idea doesn’t thrill her, encourage a stylish globe atop a stack of books or tucked into the bookshelves instead.
(2) dedicate a space in her room that celebrates awards she wins and good grades she receives. this could be as simple as hanging a cork board. being in the presence of her hard work is a subtle but powerful influencer.
(3) if she has a desk in her bedroom, does it face the wall? if so, a mirror or an image with a distant view would be great on the facing wall. when we confront a wall during our work, it translates into ‘hitting a wall’. this might contribute to how she feels about schoolwork and the effort it requires. the mirror or art both have a similar effect of opening the space up for her energy (imagination/creativity/potential) to roam.
(4) white is a multi-faceted color to use in these situations. it offers protection; helps us personally reset; reduces procrastination; and encourages us to move in a new direction. however, she doesn’t need to wear white necessarily, if it’s not ‘her color.’ bring in a white orchid; replace her bedding with white sheets; stack the bathroom shelves with white towels; or cover that cork board with white fabric.
(5) finally check the CHILDREN + CREATIVITY area of your home. is any part of it missing? if so, hang a crystal here to fill out this missing space. CHILDREN + CREATIVITY represents ‘future endeavors’ as well as ‘children’ energy, which is an excellent source of support for her!
