Q & A: any feng shui suggestions for selling a home?

people usually seek out feng shui when faced with a dilemma. more specifically, a dilemma that isn’t resolving with their familiar problem-solving strategies. a typical situation: when it is time to sell a home but the house isn’t attracting buyers or offers. because the nuances of every home are unique, hiring a practitioner is a wise investment. the *block* is often something we can identify and remedy quickly. however, there are always a few strategies in a seller’s wheelhouse to woo prospective buyers, and that’s the focus in this week’s Q!

THE QUESTION: any feng shui suggestions involving the sale of a home? we just listed our house for sale. we’ve only had two showings so far, and the feedback has been “the house is beautiful but not for us.” we cannot buy a new home until this place sells so i feel like we are stuck. the house is really clean and clear of all clutter. i would like to attract the perfect buyers for this home so we can move on confidently.”

THE SHUI: (1) neutralize the space. remove any family photos + personalized info (like your name on the mailbox, initials on the door mat, etc.). pack up a few of your favorite things – this disconnects your energy from the space, making potential buyers feel more at home there.

(2) standing at the front door looking INTO the house, imagine a tic-tac-toe board over your entire space. your home will be divided into 9 equal squares. go to the front right square – this is your HELPFUL PEOPLE section. it represents timing + synchronicity + ‘cosmic’ energy to expedite your endeavors. if possible, hang a metal chime here. a moving wind chime reminds you that wildly good energy is always blowing your way. the metal is symbolic of coins (someone say money, money, MONEY?) while the hollow rods capture all that auspicious energy for you. and when a wind chime sings, it draws attention to your space, “inviting” prospective buyers to your home.

(3) sweep the porch clean. wipe down the front door and buy a new door mat (yes, a new door mat!), all while envisioning the home being sold and a new ‘family’ moving into it.

(4) red is a confident powerhouse shui color and demands the eye’s attention. place a few red flowers outside the door, a red wreath on the door, or a bouquet somewhere inside the entry to attract interest to your home.

(5) inside the house, stage a few main rooms according to the five senses. for example, place a bowl of delicious red fruit in the kitchen (the area of a home synonymous with wealth). play music as buyers walk through it. light a citrus candle before showings. when we appeal to the senses, we nourish and relax the nervous system. and that state of mind makes us feel happy, a necessary ingredient for potential buyers to make an offer!

(6) finally, in the HELPFUL PEOPLE section, place something in this space that represents your intention to sell the house – a gray envelope (gray is a color associated with this space) with the word ‘SOLD’ on it, a picture of your next space (if you know what you’d like), or anything that holds the metaphor for moving out and into the next chapter of your life. xo
