Q & A: can feng shui help bring more energy, money, and love into my life?

this week’s question is a bundle of FAQs that come my way – living somewhere you don’t LOVE; dealing with clutter; and finding more life energy. grab your favorite cuppa because we are going to cover some shui geography today!

THE QUESTION: i work full time as a family therapist. i am the sole parent of a 1-year old baby girl. i also manage an apartment complex 8 hours a week, which earns me 8 hours of pay and a discount on the rent (huge for where i live). i know i should feel SO grateful, but i HAAATE this apartment unit! this place feels very walled and cut off. this is especially difficult as a single parent thing because i have to keep my daughter in the tiny kitchen to keep an eye on her.

i feel like this place has such horrible movement and energy, to the point that i can feel it. the biggest problem area is the front entrance. it opens right up to a wall. the wall blocks off the kitchen, and has a hallway to the right and the living room to the left.

i struggle with piling things up. i’ve been working on this after reading that the front door is maybe the worst place for clutter. i even moved the nice table out of the way so that i didn’t have anywhere to pile things. i’ve considered putting a big mirror on this particular wall, but don’t want to send positive energies out the front door. i need so much MORE energy, if anything, as i am completely exhausted a lot of the time. my other idea was to hang a photo that represents something positive to me, like love, money, or travel. i can tell you right now that i could use some more plants, as i just have a couple of tiny cacti (i’m pretty bad about keeping plants alive).

i would love to bring more energy, money, and definitely (partner) love into my life and would happily decorate accordingly. i think downsizing on possessions would be helpful, but feel like there is more i could do.

THE SHUI: a few thoughts to get energy moving:

(1) the biggest problem area is the front entrance, which opens right up to a wall – the wall blocks off the kitchen, has a hallway to the right and the living room to the left.

find an image or artwork of an open, vast landscape – this could be a horizon, a field, a road, even the ocean. this will “open up” the space for you and create metaphorical dimension that there is room ahead to roam. when you are looking for your image, find something that “points” where energy should flow so it doesn’t feel blocked in the hall. so, if you want the horizon, look for clouds drifting toward the right. if you like a vast field, have the sun more toward the image’s right corner, like it is pulling you into the space. if you like open road imagery, make sure the road winds in toward the living room. and if you like the ocean, go for waves flowing into the space, not out.

the expansive feel of any of these will add energetic momentum through the entry, and the visual cues will have energy romping into your space.

(2) i struggle with piling things up, so i’ve been working on this after reading that the front door is maybe the worst place for clutter. i even moved the nice table out of the way so that i didn’t have anywhere to pile things.

YAY for moving the table! the front door is where we receive nourishment. think of it like a mouth. we need our mouths to take in oxygen, water, and food. if anything gets in the way, it makes consumption and absorption difficult. the front door is exactly the same. so, instead of piling things up, find them a home. overwhelm isn’t usually all the stuff; it is not knowing where to put all the stuff. i know clearing clutter feels exhaustive and non-magical (haha!), but it will usher in the biggest changes of all.

when we work with shui, we are triggering new opportunities + possibilities with cures and visual gestures. however, if there is a pile of stuff greeting that energy when it arrives, the pile absorbs those newly stimulated vibes, and we feel like nothing changes. clear the clutter, and the life changes you seek will start being far more punctual!

also, because you prefer to pile things up, i want you to incorporate a little white into the space. piling things up is a WOOD element tendency. without going into the details, when an element is out of balance, we feel out of balance, too. in the 5-element cycle, metal is used to ‘chop’ wood, and white is the color of metal. so, by simply wearing or using white more in your space, it will curb your tendency and impulse to pile things up!

(3) i need so much MORE energy, if anything, as i am completely exhausted a lot of the time.

let’s talk energy enhancers. you mention plants, and they are FABULOUS, if you can keep them alive. otherwise, they become a drain on your energy, too. so, buy one with the intention of taking care of it like you want to be taken care of – you get what you give.

more importantly, increase the wattage in your lamps + lights. this will stoke your own internal fire. add pops of bright, bold color where possible. you mentioned hanging a photo that represents something “+” to you. go for bold + dazzling. find something you gravitate toward because you love it SO much. when something like that radiates in our space, it is a swanky energy lift!

and back to the 5-element cycle, fire consumes wood, so again – this will help with the piling up vibes!

(4) i would love to bring more energy, money, and definitely (partner) love into my life and would happily decorate accordingly. i think downsizing on possessions would be helpful, but feel like there is more i could do.

open space is a NEON sign to the universe we are ready for new energy, money, and love. you can’t receive what you don’t make room for in your life. downsize what you no longer love, need, use, or would buy again today. your house is a living space, not storage. after you do an intentional clearing, find a way to spruce up your space so it looks a bread crumb trail of inspiration. put a little something in every space that tells the story of who you’re becoming! xo
