Q & A: chaos called? here’s what it needs!

“i recently have found myself in the throes of the best romance of my life. i am in my 40s and thought it wouldn’t happen. i did a little shui – not totally practicing the romance or love stuff. i emptied a drawer and strategically placed love notes to the universe out there. it’s been amazing! i am so happy, but there is a massive imbalance now in other areas of my life. i’m desperate to be grounded and calm. everything else feels so chaotic.”

so, what’s there to do when you shui so much, get the results you want, and then chaos ensues due to that change? this is such a great Q, and i’ve got 7 ideas of where you can start today:

PRACTICE MODERATION.

no matter the goal or desire, shui typically works best when we make 1-2 changes at a time. a moderate approach has two BIG advantages. one, we notice what works and what doesn’t, which harnesses confidence the next time we need to shui similarly. two, every improvement we make in our surroundings improves our energy. and our energy is the most important ingredient in Feng Shui! so, with each fresh batch of changes we make, we stir in a higher quality vibe. and the results only grow more delicious!

‘OM’ YOUR HOME.

go to the center of your house – this is your home’s motherboard. the center gua touches all 8 life areas around it, influencing their energy, too. before you apply any remedy in your house, observe what’s happening here. this space will either amplify or interrupt your efforts. so, use it to set the tone for your house and life. and whenever it feels like chaos is loose, this is the spot to pull your life back into center. clean it. organize it. place something fresh here. let it say ‘this is our seat of calm.’

next, look at your LOVE/RELATIONSHIP area. this embodies the female head-of-household energy, and it LOVES the element EARTH. EARTH is our grounding, calming, and nurturing element, so her presence offers an army of support during chaos. use her to ground this space. how? a heavy blanket. a potted plant. a stack of weighty books. a wool rug on floor. or a bowl of rocks on display.

YIN FOR ZEN.

‘in the throes’ is language for excitement, change, and transition – each exudes very YANG energy. and while that intoxication is initially heady, left unchecked, it can yield chaos. we counter-balance this with its partner: YIN. yin energy is softening, absorbing, recalibrating, and less doing and more ‘being’. you can read all the ways to bring in more YIN here, but one of my favorite ways is with…

a salty bath. this concoction is heavenly yin. it also soaks us in EARTH’s energy! it detoxes the chaos and frenzy we’ve gathered in our wings. and my other favorite part? a salty bath puts us in the way of…

still water. most people are familiar with the benefits of moving water in Feng Shui. you’ve probably heard how a water fountain or goldfish in a tank are good for money energy, right? well, when we feel stripped to the studs, still water recharges our soul. it’s calming. it pulls us inward. and it slows energy down long enough for us to reflect, release, and renew ourselves.

REMEMBER THIS: EVERYTHING IS ALWAYS CHANGING.

when we’re wooing romance, it is easy to be swept up in using the energy of FIRE. we’re talking candles. silky fabrics. red-hot colors. animal prints. i LOVE that we can use a certain element to attract a specific change in our lives. however, it’s a good idea to go back and reassess if we still want that energy in our lives once the universe delivers our package! FIRE especially is one that has to be watched. a candle itself isn’t overpowering, right? leave it unattended at home, though, and it quickly becomes dangerous. FIRE lends to growing, ascending, reaching, stretching, and being ‘on.’ without a break from its energy, though, and we become impatient, impulsive, or burned out. so, how about this instead? a little less FIRE once the love honey is buzzing! xo
