Q & A: help me sell my house!
my client’s home wasn’t selling, so she reached out. the house received plenty of interest and traffic, but nothing developed into an offer. the realtor wasn’t getting any constructive feedback, so my client wondered: could Feng Shui could help?
in my experience, sometimes a home needs a few visual upgrades and improvements before it will sell.
other times, a house would benefit from a few energy corrections – like mitigating a front door lined up with back door, or adding a little more yin (or yang) energy throughout the house. energetic corrections, like these, will often ease potential buyers into feeling settled in the space.
and other times, like in this case, the home needs you to say good-bye.
we tend to think of our spaces like they are merely part of our lives – an architectural backdrop of our days. i encourage you to consider the many lives a home sees – especially if you don’t stay in one house your entire life. from that gaze, you are part of your home’s life for a spell. add to this that every dwelling you’ve ever called “home” is a member of your family during that time. and like family, those relationships can be comforting or complicated. in this particular home, it felt like the house needed a little convincing to let the family move on before someone else could “feel at home” in it.
we made a few adjustments, including taking the family photos down and (barely) pulling the beds away from the wall. both signal detachment from the house. i performed a cleansing ceremony. my intention: clear the energy so the home could be more receptive to the idea of a fresh start. as i left, i encouraged my client to write a farewell letter to her home. in this letter, i suggested noting her gratitude for the home and sharing a few highlights from their lives under its roof.
all this happened on a Monday. by Thursday night, they received their first full asking price offer. and it was one they accepted!
the trick isn’t knowing all the shui rituals and adjustments to use when selling a home. it is tuning into and reading a space so you can identify what’s causing the snag. and if pausing to have a conversation is what the house ordered, do it! your attention now will smooth the transition into the next new chapter of your life. xo
