Q&A: what is a wealth vase?
i was recently asked about a WEALTH VASE. specifically, what is a wealth vase? what goes in it? and, what does a wealth vase ‘remedy’? so, in today’s Q & A, we explore this traditional Feng Shui cure. the assembly of a wealth vase requires an extra heft of effort and may seem intimidating at first. however, the ingredients shared are known to woo wealth to the max! so, if you’re ready to make more money, let me introduce one of the oldest Feng Shui practices still widely used today.
WHAT IS A WEALTH VASE?
a quick recap of Feng Shui first:
Feng Shui translated means WIND and WATER.
Feng is WIND – a form of energy.
Shui is WATER – a symbol of fortune.
Feng Shui.
wind water.
energy fortune.
simply put, Feng Shui is our alignment with the energy of fortune.
a wealth vase is one of Feng Shui’s oldest traditions to summon, increase, and protect abundance and fortune.
WHAT GOES IN A WEALTH VASE?
we have distinct ideas on what constitutes ‘abundance and prosperity.’ for you, a successful business might be your money dream come true. for someone else, abundance is access to opportunity. and for another person, wealth equals a debt-free life. because of our different interpretations for a ‘wealthy life’, it is important the ingredients you gather reverberate with you. however, there are a few essential supplies you absolutely need!
- a vase you LOVE. its only requirements: the bottom must be wider than the top, and it needs to be sealed with a lid.
- soil from the property of a wealthy friend or someone prosperous. do not take this without asking first. otherwise, consider soil from one of your favorite landscapes or a vibrantly thriving location.
- 5 types of grain or seed to represent abundance. seal these in a plastic bag. (i use 5 varieties of rice.)
- 5 square pieces of fabric and 5 strings of thread in the following colors: blue, green, red, yellow, and white. these colors represent the 5 elements’ creative cycle.
LET’S TALK SYMBOLS!
a wealth vase is an accumulation of what brings you joy, contentment, and a sense of generosity. if something emulates those energies for you, add it to your vase. and if you need suggestions, here are a few traditional Feng Shui ingredients:
- gold ingots or bars. real is best, but faux works, too!
- personal symbols of wealth. think: a picture of a wealthy person you admire. imagery of your wealth goals. foreign currency or a $100 bill, and put either/both in a red envelope. you might also use traditional symbols, like a Wealth God. other considerations include:
- the Laughing Buddha to welcome happiness and auspiciousness.
- Pi Yao to summon a never-ending flow of money.
- the money toad to bring wealth and good fortune.
- 3 I-Ching coins tied together with red string. you can place these coins in a red envelope, too.
- jewels, semi-precious or precious stones, or beads. this can be an assortment of what you LOVE. traditionally, the line-up includes amethyst, citrine, pearl, topaz, jade, diamonds, lapis, or crystals.
- a small crystal ball or globe to suggest smooth progression through life.
NOW WHAT?
intention is EVERYTHING. meditate on your goals and specific wealth desires first. why are you building a wealth vase? get clear and hold that vision as if it is already achieved. as you assemble your vase, your thoughts will be going into it along with all the other ingredients!
before you assemble, cleanse the vase with sandalwood incense.
the soil will go in first as this creates a stable foundation for planting your ‘prosperity seeds.’ your grains symbolize well-being – place these atop the soil. next, add any currency and the I-Ching coins inside. the gold ingots, photos of wealthy people you admire, and/or any ‘wealth’ imagery goes into the vase along with the money. the stones, gems, or crystals – symbolizing fortune – should almost fill your vase to its rim. finally, place any traditional symbols of wealth (Laughing Buddha, Pi Yao, or a money toad) atop the ‘ingredients’ to protect and proliferate your wealth.
THE FINAL TOUCH.
once your vase is completely filled, put the lid on and cover the lid with the 5 pieces of fabric. layer them in this order: blue, green, red, yellow, and white – your white fabric square will be on top. take your 5 colors of string, and braid them. once they’re entwined, tie the strings around the cloths to tighten them and seal the lid/vase shut.
place your vase out of sight, and resist the urge to show it off. ideal locations for your vase are your bedroom or a high shelf in a closet. keep the outside of your vase clean; otherwise, do not disturb it. while the effort seems exhaustive, this tradition has been carried forward for centuries. with each passing generation, these symbols are repeatedly enriched with meaning. for me, this means one thing: this investment of resource now assuredly bear fruits of fortune, luck, and wealth later! xo
