simple shui x doTERRA
the opportunity to tune into + improve/enhance/balance energy is more accessible than ever, and with so many possibilities, it can feel overwhelming to know where + how to invest your resources. and because i am part of that circle, it is not uncommon for me to receive messages from like-minded entrepreneurs + healers curious if i’ve heard of their products or offerings. so, when Kirsty reached out to me recently, i had an idea: what if i talk essential shui + she shares an oil equivalent perspective. we LOVE oils around my house, but it is not something i practice with people outside of my family + a few clients. and because i am all about letting people shine doing what they do best, this was FUN! so, let me know what you think – and if this Q & A resonates, maybe it’ll become a new feature around simple shui! and a thousand thanks + huge round of applause for Kirsty stepping into this with me!
S/S: i often say LIVE WITH WHAT YOU LOVE. this extends into whatever shui tips + tricks + tactics you discover. if you LOVE a shui suggestion, consider it a golden ticket. if you read some shui advice +/or a friend tells you something about shui that gives you pause + you don’t LOVE its vibe, two words: don’t proceed. what you think is POWERFUL, and doing something for the sake of it being good shui won’t work if you don’t connect with it. what you LOVE will always rank first, and it is why you can’t out-shui LOVE. so, with LOVE being the most important factor in shui, tell us: WHAT 3 OILS DO YOU LOVE MOST + WHY?
KIRSTY: Someone once described Rose to me like receiving an energetic hug! I think this perfectly sums Rose up – full of love, support and comfort, but she’s also strong and powerful. Rose has the highest vibrational frequencies of all essential oils, making it perfect for raising our own. This high vibration allows us to make our own personal shifts of energy and healing. I personally love applying Rose when I need a vibrational boost.
There is no doubt Frankincense would also make my top three! It’s the ‘King of the Oils’ – and with a high vibrational frequency, it is often used in meditation as it has a grounding, calming energy. It eases anxiety by calming stress reactions in the body, helping us shift from a state of tension, stress and unhappiness into a calm, peaceful and grounded space.
My final go-to would be a citrus oil. I actually like to use all the citrus oils quite frequently, but my current favourite is Grapefruit. Like any citrus, it brings a smile to your face instantly. I have never met anyone at a class who isn’t drawn to a citrus of some kind. These essences are happy, joyful and uplifting and a must-have for sweeping away stagnant, depressed energy and moving us into an uplifted state.
S/S: let’s talk CLUTTER. for me, this word has less to do with housekeeping or being organized, and more to do with the energetic banking happening around us. i think of space like a savings account. everything is either a deposit (possibly accruing interest) or withdrawal of energy. and if we have closets and top shelves and drawers filled with who-knows-what, it’s time for some accounting. WHY? when we want to manifest LOVE or MONEY or whatever we fancy – and we skip right past the clutter clearing for some wildly woo shui cure instead – here’s what happens: the shui works, but we are so insulated/smothered/barricaded by all our stuff that the magic shows up and slips away unnoticed or is absorbed by the clutter. either way, it wasn’t the shui that flopped. we simply weren’t available to receive it. so, if someone is having a hard time moving into the action part of clearing clutter: WHAT OIL(S) ARE ALIGNED WITH RELEASING WHAT NO LONGER SERVES US? and, WHAT OIL(S) HELPS US TRUST THE LETTING GO PROCESS?
KIRSTY: Essential Oils can definitely help with release and letting go as they interact directly with the limbic system, which is the part of the brain connected to memories and emotions (anger, fear, happiness, etc). It also controls heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, stress levels and hormonal balance. Did you know it only takes about 22 seconds for an oil to reach the brain? Amazing, isn’t it? Essential oils are one of the only known substances able to cross the blood brain barrier. This is because the body recognises them and knows what to do with them, which is why quality and CPTG certification are so important. The grade of oil you use will determine its chemistry, potency and efficacy.
Some of my favourite oils for letting negativity go are Lemon, Clary Sage, Lavender, Frankincense, Cypress, Juniper and Rose; however, it’s important to listen to your body when you select an oil or blend and be guided by your own responses.
S/S: after talking with a client about LOVE and clearing clutter, we discuss the importance of energetic cleaning – specifically, space clearing. all of us spend time dusting + vacuuming; washing linens + laundry; and doing all the surface cleaning, but we often overlook energetic residue. it layers up (think: conversation gone sideways; media + news; illnesses; gossip; etc.), and that vibrational debris causes its own kind of disruptions and hiccups. so, i encourage clients + readers alike to make space clearing a ritual. and it doesn’t always require sage. on the regular, i sweep – out with the old, in with the new; i leave salt out for 24 hours; and i open windows. these rituals are my bouncers, making sure negative energy doesn’t make itself a drink and get sloppy in our space. now, if someone wanted to use EOs instead: WILL YOU SHARE A RECIPE +/or RITUAL FOR KEEPING ENERGY CLEAN + CLEAR IN OUR SPACES?
KIRSTY: First, it’s important to use only the highest quality oils in your home. You want to know that what you’re breathing in, applying to your skin, or taking internally is 100% pure with no fillers, synthetics or watered down. If you want to follow the ritual of smudging, there’s a gorgeous blend made of frankincense + lemon + lavender. Fill a glass spray bottle with filtered water, add 3 drops of each essential oil, and then walk around your house spritzing to cleanse as you would with traditional smudging. Another option is to use a diffuser – a fantastic way to both banish stagnant energy and freshen a room. I often use Lemon alone for just this reason as it not only purifies but makes you happy! Make sure to use a diffuser that has a really good dispersion rate. Both these methods give you a quick alternative to traditional smudging that is also smoke free for those that are sensitive.
