house therapy | when doing *all the things* becomes too much

when people first study Feng Shui, it’s easy to get tangled in “right vs. wrong.” ‘Google School’ is full of rules, warnings, and superstition. before long, people who came to Feng Shui for support start walking around afraid to make a mistake.

and that’s not the point, so here’s how I encourage people to think about it:

some nights, you DoorDash dinner and eat it straight from the container. other nights, you plate it, light a candle, pour water into a real glass – and the same food feels different.

the nourishment didn’t change; the presentation did.

that’s Feng Shui.

which means…

if your rituals are feeling like chores, pause. the whole point of taking care of your home is so your home can take care of you.

what you’ve created through shui doesn’t disappear the moment you skip a ritual. when we work with this wisdom, our efforts compound and our home remembers.

this also shows up for people wanting to manifest something BIG – a book deal, the promotion, that bigger visibility / audience. they spend more time perfecting rituals than putting in the reps toward the goal.

I love candles, clearing space, and sweeping the front door, but if I haven’t prepped for the meeting, written the pitch, or shown up for the opportunity… it’s expecting Feng Shui to do the part that’s mine.

Feng Shui optimizes. it triggers. however, it doesn’t replace your work.

there’s a story I love from Winning by Tim Grover, trainer to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. he said Jordan made every decision before game day – meals, clothes, even his drive to the arena – so that when he was on the court, he was fully present and able to make quick decisions. when you automate the environment, your brain uses less willpower and less “what-if” thinking.

that’s what Feng Shui should feel like.

it’s your pre-game preparation, giving you more of you: focus, clarity, stamina. so when it’s time to do the thing, you’re not wasting energy trying to make your environment “right.”

instead of treating Feng Shui as a TO DO list, think of it as a collaboration.

you’re co-creating with your space. you’re conspiring with it. and you’re building an environment that helps you bring your best forward. that’s the real magic.
