Q: where should i hang a mirror?
last week’s post generated (more than) a few Qs about mirrors, so how about a part deux?
Q: “where should i hang a mirror? and how can mirrors be used in positive ways in our home?”
A: i LOVE the way a mirror can light up a room, especially in dark spots of a home. in Feng Shui, every part of our home carries meaning. so, when you add more light (even if it’s with the use of a mirror) to a room, you are bringing more “light” into that area of your life.
mirrors also keep energy romping around the room, which is important in rooms that don’t get used as much – like the guest room. just remember, they double what they reflect so this might require a little tidying up before the mirror works for you.
and now, here are a few ways to work with mirrors in specific rooms to “dial up” the positive energy:
YOUR OFFICE: a mirror in your creative space is always welcome because it keeps energy active / engaged / filling your life with what it reflects. and if you’re in a creative rut, struggling with writer’s block, or feeling creatively parched, a temporary (but quick!) fix is to hang a mirror on both sides of you while you work. again, the mirrors don’t need to stay up permanently; however, they do need to be big enough that you could glance at them and see yourself in both. this little “remedy” gets energy bouncing back and forth (which is why it’s a short-term suggestion), which has you feeling that momentum and suddenly, new ideas are percolating as a result!
THE DINING ROOM: mirrors are the perfect accent in the dining room, if we use it! the shui at play here is when we feed others, it suggests we have abundance available to us. in ancient China, it was believed if we were able to provide sustenance for others, they would be strong and healthy – and that would allow them to work hard and earn money. and so, the abundance cycle would continue. this is why gathering family and friends around the dining room table for a meal, games or even conversation is perceived as prosperous. add a mirror to the room and you’re suggesting even more prosperity and plenty in your life.
OVER THE FIREPLACE: a mirror over the fireplace balances out the energy of Fire created here.
WHEN OUT OF COMMAND: if you are unable to position your desk or bed in command (where you are facing the door but you are not directly in line with it), you can place a mirror in the room so that you can see whoever enters it. for example, if you face a wall at your desk, placing a mirror on the wall you face – like it’s a rearview mirror – will allow you to see anyone coming up behind you. and if your bed is on the same wall as the bedroom door, you can place a mirror (usually across from you) to reflect the door so you can see anyone entering your room. xo
