Q & A: i’m looking to change careers – any shui insight?

i host a LIVE video Q & A in the Simple Shui Circle monthly. i LOVE these 30-minute jam sessions because i can cater shui to a very specific challenge. this month’s Q felt relatable, so i am sharing it with you today!

THE QUESTION: “i’m currently on maternity leave and looking to change careers when i go back to work. the problem? i’m so undecided between different options and lack clarity into what it is exactly i really want to do. i just know i need a BIG change. any shui insight?”

so, what do i recommend when you just know you need a BIG change?

BRING IN WATER + WOOD + FIRE.

our GO-TO element when it comes to career energy is moving water. (think: finding a job, changing careers, or being seen by your superiors.) however, a fountain or aquarium can be a high maintenance remedy – both require meticulous upkeep. so, i prefer to bring moving water in through ritual. like…brewing coffee, boiling water, watering plants, or running (and soaking in) a bath. each becomes an OPPORTUNITY to work with moving water and all its professional moxie! be sure to do it daily and pair it with your intention.

wood represents INTUITION. it symbolizes our SENSE OF SIGHT. its energy encourages MOVING UPWARD. its essence leaves us feeling full of NEW HOPE. so, include it around you in its varying expressions. a few choices: fresh plants + flowers, plant-based textures, bright greens, tall furniture or lighting that shoots upward.

fire is outward. expressive. and it demands to be seen – like YOU want to be as you put yourself out there. dash your kisser with some red lipstick or light 9 red candles every day. however you turn up the heat, a little fire blazes the way for your passion and enthusiasm!

REPEAT AFTER ME: CLARITY EQUALS POWER.

clarity doesn’t abide where clutter lives, so don’t skip this part. especially if you’re trying to discern and distinguish what you really want to do. clutter leads to ambiguity, and that’s the opposite of clarity.

i also like to reverse engineer this concept: POWER EQUALS CLARITY. when we feel empowered, we trust our gut instincts. our attunement become a reliable filter. the low notes have a harder time getting to us. and in their absence, we’re introduced to potential and possibilities aligned with reinforcing that empowerment! so, how do you ‘shui’ this? look for metaphors that play to strength. what embodies this for you? for me, these are usually the stories (books) of resilient and mentally fit people. i also prioritize HIGH QUALITY because something that endures the test of time possesses strength.

if nothing comes to you, try this instead: choose a ritual to observe every day for 27 days. when we hold ourselves to a goal and accomplish it, we strengthen our integrity. and that counts, too!

SELECT ONE FOCAL POINT PER ROOM.

walk into a room in your house. is your eye (and attention) grabbed everywhere? if so, you might experience some dissonance, or even overwhelm. the challenge with overwhelm? we get brain fatigue. the perception of effort required to take in all the information exhausts us. and when we our mentally fatigued, it is SO hard to make a clear decision.

keep this simple by deciding each room’s purpose, and then let its superstar shine. for instance, in your bedroom, the BED is the main attraction. if the dresser or bedside tables are cluttered, clear them off. if random pieces of the day end up in here (laundry baskets, work), move them out. TELL THE EYE WHERE TO LOOK, and you just scored a clarity home run!

TURN FINANCIAL FLOW INTO A DAILY RITUAL.

i learned this ritual years ago from a mentor, and i LOVE its simplicity. for the next 27 days (or longer, if you choose), refill a bowl of water every single day and place it atop the largest denomination you can afford. you’ll place + practice this ritual in your WEALTH corner. your wealth area is either in the back left-hand corner of your house (if you’re standing at the front door looking in) OR in the southeast area of your home. either one works, so choose the one that accommodates you best! xo
