simple shui | why i wrote a book

almost to this exact day last year, i was sitting on the couch with my lovelies binging a show. in between episodes, i was posting excerpts from my workbooks – and promoting them for the new year. somewhere in the mix of it all, the idea of having a book filled with shui prompts came to me. i let myself imagine it coming out around the holidays. i envisioned it on gift lists and store shelves. and i let myself indulge in the possibility it was the best thing i had created yet!

in the space of those few minutes, i said YES to myself. and the deal was inked.

here’s what i knew for sure before i started:

+ there would be 365 prompts – daily motivation style.

+ the suggestions would work any time of year – no expiration dates here.

+ it would be the kind of shui anyone could do – previous experience or understanding not required.

here’s what i didn’t know before i started:

+ how much effort and grit writing a book requires.

+ how many prompts would end up on the editing floor – seriously, enough for a volume 2!

+ how much would happen in my life personally during the process. staying the course turned out to be so much harder than i anticipated.

as with any BIG goal, you learn so much about yourself along the way. you’re tested; you lose hope; you have all the doubts. but. if you’re lucky, you develop new muscle memory for showing up anyway. and if you’re super duper lucky, you stick with it long enough to fall in LOVE with the final outcome, so…

here’s what i LOVE about the book:

Feng Shui is a practice that aligns us with the best possible energy available. think of it like planting a garden outside. if you genuinely care for its livelihood, you’ll pick a spot that receives the perfect amount of sun required for your plants. you’ll ensure they’re watered consistently and evenly. if the elements become too harsh – like a winter freeze – you’ll do your best to protect them, probably with a cover. there will be regular fertilizing, pruning and pulling. and sometimes, you’ll be replacing a few of your plants. but all your efforts will pay off as the garden grows and matures and blossoms beyond your delight.

turns out…

we aren’t much different. our homes are the soil we grow in – and they have the potential to nourish our best lives.

we need the light (positive thinking) and water (a steady flow and exchange of energy + opportunities) to keep us growing. and when things happen that are beyond our control, our environments (with a little tweaking) can protect us from the worst of it. and because life is always changing, we evolve, too – which means sometimes we need to add a few things (fertilizer). other times, we have to push up our sleeves and prune our surroundings. but with a little focus every day, we’ll nurture the exact magic necessary in our lives right at home.

that’s the entire point of this book. it offers tools, practical ways of thinking about and working with Feng Shui, guidance, encouragement, and plenty of LOVE. so, think of Simple Shui for Every Day like this: every day gives you something for your garden – and if you use it, it will ultimately become a gift to yourself! xo
