a house of joy

Have you had a chance to give your home a proper walk through? To encourage your participation, I'll address one question {posted last Tuesday} per week through the experience of my home. My intention: Guide you though the process and {hopefully} inspire a few happy + positive enhancements in your space.

There's a line in a Sheryl Crow song I love because it is profoundly spot on. It's not having what you want. It's wanting what you've got.

And, really, there is no better place to begin this process than documenting what you LOVE about your space right now. My suggestion? Observe what makes your heart swell by photographing the rooms + nooks of your home…as it is…right now. Aim for 3 spots, regardless of size.

A few of my favorites include:

Morning snapshots july 2011 (2)

{our kitchen table}

Morning snapshots july 2011 (14)

{nooks of books everywhere}

Amanda's house12 5x7

{orchids + natural light}

Blackhawk April 2011 {30) (3)

{pops of black + white amidst…}

Random house july 2011 (5)

{layers of color}

Have you ever walked into a store and been consumed whole by all the glorious options within reach? This happens to me every. single. time. I walk into Anthropologie. Seriously. I am captivated for an hour. Easily.

However.

Understanding what I love releases me from the spell of wanting to buy it all. And as the pictures suggest, I adore minimal accessories + a flood of natural light. I am also enamored by books I've read + black and white accents + bold color.

When we know what we LOVE, it impedes impulsive purchases {and potential clutter}. Instead, we are influenced toward what resonates and harmonizes with WHAT WE HAVE + WHO WE ARE. This is how we begin to choose LOVE over LIKE. And the more we practice, the more joyous the flow within our space becomes. If our home reflects what truly nourishes + nurtures us, we integrate balance + good energy into our body, mind, and spirit…absolutely transforming our lives.
