how it’s done: a simple house blessing

when back-to-school energy is in the air, i always feel like it’s a second chance at that magical new year start. and in its spirit, i’ve been sharing a few ways to make the most of this because all of our homes could probably use a few reasons to smile!

over on the socials, i shared how to whip up some sunshine in a bottledeep clean your mattress; and why we sweep (even though vacuuming is so much easier!). each of these is a super accessible way to improve your home’s energetic ecosystem!

today’s tip requires a little more commitment, but the good news is it’s a one-and-done-for-the-year ritual. so, you can jump in right now or pocket this until the New Year.

you’ll need a few things before getting started:

  • a few hours to tidy up!
  • broom
  • candle
  • salt in a bowl. (any salt works – sea salt is what i use because we usually have some in the pantry.)
  • a scent you LOVE – keep reading, and you will see why!
  • a sweet treat for you and your loved ones.

before performing any house blessing or clearing, you gotta clean. go the extra mile and open the doors and windows to give your house a quick fresh infusion. (listen, it’s 100+ here, so i’ll only do this for a few minutes.)

next, sweep your porch – and if you’ve been following along on Insta this week, you maybe already did! it is custom in some cultures to do this with a new broom. i won’t be buying one because i LOVE mine, but if yours is looking a little past its prime, consider this a practical and useful offering to your home.

when you are ready to bless your home, start by lighting a candle and placing it in the middle (or near the middle) of your home.

starting at the front door, walk from room to room sprinkling a little salt everywhere. salt does a few things: it purifies the space; it creates a layer of protection; it cleanses the chi of your home; and it moderates the flow of energy through your home. so, it’s worth those few sprinkles everywhere, don’t you think? (leave it there for at least 24 hours before sweeping / vacuuming it up.)

the blessing itself is personal. what is it you want to create, manifest, or feel at home for the next year? say this OUT LOUD to your home.

or, you might want to grab the Feng Shui map and let each LIFE AREA inspire your goals and objectives. as you move from room to room, make those inspired declarations OUT LOUD.

if you are the praying type, you can stand in the middle of your home and offer an invocation. your words will be the magic that sparks your home’s blessing!

once the blessing is done, use a little scent-sational energy to embody what you’ve (and your family, loved ones) invited into your life. any aromatherapy will do – i personally LOVE a good orange spritz here! another way we work with oranges is to peel small pieces of rind and drop them around the house – leaving them out for 24 hours. it sounds a little messy, but it shifts the energy like WHOA!

when you’re done, celebrate! any clearing / cleansing leaves a blank slate for new energy, so this is a jackpot moment to really get happy! eat something delish, clap your hands and hug each other, or don your house with something special you bought for the occasion. (i just bought a beautiful tablecloth for our kitchen table!) and now that your house is smiling, you’ll find yourself smiling back so much more!

i would LOVE to hear what you did and see pics, so if you care to share, email me. i want alllll the details, really! xo
