simple shui | confessions from a shui enthusiast

i tell my lovelies all the time you learn more from your mistakes than you do your successes.

so. i’m peeling back and sharing with you some of my stumblings.

and this one is fresh.

at the ripening of summer, the lovelies came home from a birthday celebration with a party favor. the kind that looks like a tiny animal until you submerge it into water for a few days. at which point, it becomes a bloated and bigger version of its former self.

ours was a turtle.

and whilst only the moon knows, one lovely much loved it. the kind of fondness reserved for special stuffed animals and cute pets.

it went against my better judgment to keep it, but i reached a higher octave and agreed.

soon enough, i was changing its water every couple days while trying to keep my wits.

when we got home from utah, i explained the turtle had to go.

my concession? we decided (i may have even suggested and encouraged!) some fish could be its replacement.

a mini celebration burst out.

but i had an ulterior motive: fish are considered good luck in shui.

you see, if you asked me what the first thing i ever learned about shui was, i would tell you 8 goldfish + 1 black goldfish are considered some serious shui mojo.

luckily, and i emphasize that word, i decided 3 fish were a good (safe) beginning.

honestly, i didn’t expect they’d survive beyond a few days.

in family solidarity, we headed into the pet store and grabbed the 3 fish (2 gold, 1 black), some fishy water, and fishy flakes.

the whole time i am thinking luck is going to pour right into our laps.

well.

i can’t say for sure it hasn’t mitigated unseen events or trials that might have been on their way.

but what i will say for sure is now i have one more thing in this house to feed daily. and unlike our dog who requires food + water + the occasional outside roam, the caring and keeping of fish is demanding.

after a month of solid performance by both the fish and their fabulous care keeper, one of them went belly up.

which required a fish funeral. of course.

the other two are still alive and thick as thieves.

and as long as they get along swimmingly, i will be here tending them.

because at this point, they’ve become part of the hood.

moral of this story: the only shui advice you follow is the shui that really inspires you. because enthusiasm is shui’s tag team partner here. and i forgot to make sure mine were both in the ring.
