Q & A: i find incense too cloying – any alternatives?

homes are gracious gathering spots and possess an enormous ability to feed our happiness and well-being. yet, despite our best efforts, they sometimes get pockets of sticky energetic residue. so, whenever you or your home feel like a fresh pick-me-up, try a quick space clearing. not only will this usher those lingering low vibes out, it opens room for healthy, vibrant energy to flourish and flow. it seems today most people pivot to a marketplace of sage or incense. if you have a sensitivity to smoke, however, these options can be more disruptive than dependable. lucky for us, there is a wealth of alternative medicine out there, and that’s what we are talking about in today’s Q!

THE QUESTION: i suffer from allergies and find incense/sage smoke too cloying. can you recommend a couple alternatives?

THE SHUI: keep a stash of beeswax candles handy for a quick cleansing! they curate a magic all their own. they have a long burn time. they are hypo-allergenic because there are no additives. best of all? they generate negative ions – which possess mood boosting superpowers!

essential oils offer a wide repertoire of replenishing qualities, including energetic maintenance for our homes and work spaces. and a diffuser is a reliable delivery system for essential oils, making a quick restoration easy and breezy! don’t have a diffuser? put a few drops of a favorite EO on a cotton ball – tuck it into a room and enjoy the diffusion. how’s that for low maintenance?

a personal favorite of mine is to add a few fresh orange peels or several drops of pure orange essential oil to a spray bottle, and fill it with water. this bright elixir is a negativity disinfectant, busting up heavy vibes and boosting moods. when the low notes start crooning here, i walk around our home and liberally spritz them away.

finally, salt is one of the most yang, natural elements and offers protection from unwanted, negative energies. salt is a good thing to always have on hand, especially when good and less-than-great energies collide (think: holiday gatherings, difficult conversations, etc.). leave a bowl of salt out for 24 hours, and then deposit it outside in the dirt or trash – wherever makes the most sense to you. repeat this cleanse as often as needed! want to glam this remedy up? use Himalayan salt candle holders to set the mood and keep negative ions (nature’s feel good vibes) floating through the air. hello, dreams and goodbye, drama! xo
