Q & A: can you help me understand the difference between “kondo” and shui?

Q: i am so interested in Feng Shui after looking around your impressive website. the practice of Feng Shui seems a little similar to the “kondo tidy” philosophy. i’m sure i’m off base a bit, so can you help me understand the difference?

A: hello, and thank you for the kind words about the site!

and you are right – there are striking similarities between Kondo and Feng Shui.

for me, KonMarie is an organizing and simplifying method to remove clutter from your space and keep it from accumulating again. in that freedom, there is considerable JOY to be felt!

Feng Shui examines the energetic integrity of our surroundings. clutter is definitely a low vibration culprit in our space that interferes with the energy of joy. however, Feng Shui isn’t exclusively focused on clearing clutter and organizing. Feng Shui considers several other factors to wholly determine what is happening in our lives – because shui believes the home is a mirror of ourselves.

so, for example, if i go into a client’s home and notice a loose door handle, poor lighting, and clutter, i would consider all as possible infractions impacting my client’s life circumstances. and my follow-up recommendations would prioritize them all equally

what i know from working with Feng Shui is once you get started – even doing a few little things consistently – it’ll change your trajectory significantly. so, don’t underestimate small efforts. instead, focus on consistency and you’ll be surprised how far you go!

hope this helps!
