take the sensory route

we are all sensory brings, always taking in information through our senses. mindfully cater to these 5 senses in our surroundings, and we relax. our nervous systems *sense* that *life thrives* here.

the practice of Feng Shui is really about shoring up auspicious life chi. by inviting it to *pool* in our surroundings, we live long, healthy lives. so, this nod to the 5 senses aligns well with shui. the other cool part? our world is a blend of the 5 elements: water, wood, fire, earth, and metal. and it just so happens, each element is represented by our senses.

wood relates to sight.
fire equals touch (and talk).
earth represents taste.
metal symbolizes smell.
water is tied to sound.

when we walk into a room or space and instantly feel comfortable, we’re likely enveloped by a balance of all five elements. our nervous systems absorb that diaphanous energy — and we just feel better. this matters because, and i quote Jeff Bridges here, “when you feel joy, you get lighter and relax. and when you feel relaxed, your best stuff gets past your tightness , your fears and it just flows out.”

so, start now. every day until the end of the year, deliberately put yourself in good company. need a starting point?

keep a cool glass of water nearby during the day.

splurge on a soft rug underfoot (if you work from home), or bring a cashmere wrap or light wool blanket into the office and keep it on/near your chair.

light a scented candle, freshen the room with fragrant bloomies, or mix frankincense and myrrh oils (this combo strengthens the soul!) to spritz around the room.

open the window to hear the birds or wind, or make a playlist with your favorite music or sounds and let it play in the background.

keep something bright, beautiful, and beckoning in your environment (or every room of your house). alternatively, add a little gold (frame, holiday decor, office supplies even!) and light (desk lamp, twinkling lights, or a mirror!)— the reflective interplay there will grab your attention and keep energy bouncing delightfully around the room. xo
